NIGHT FEVER
BAM, December 4, 1998

Morbid stuff aside, the best show I've seen in ages was the BLOODROSES, Go-Go Market gig at the Paradise last week. The Bloodroses' melodramatically titled, "Demonstrations from the House of Faith" disc only hints at what they can do live, where the quintet's almost psychic playing breathes delicate life into all that pretty Western gothic twang. Frontlady Michelle Muldrow is a gentle force, an indigo-topped temptress with just enough rock gruff in that sweet soul voice to move from whisper to wail when required. That tall guitar from the Kuntry-K's is a downright brilliant lead player, as is the quasi-Chassid from Dieselhed, here handling the keys. And all that talent aside, the Bloodroses have hooky, oozing,a scending songs about deserts and destitution. Pay close listen for early "Fevie" best song contender "Consequence" with its soaring, bittersweet,r adio-ready "in the bottom of my heart" chorus.
